ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE

TRAVEL TO AND FROM THE MARINA

We recommend pre-booking your taxi for arrival and departure. Taxi wait lines at the airport can be very long and rates can fluctuate. We recommend the following taxi provider: Nikole +30 690 777 7700 (Whatsapp or Viber) or via email: nikole4taxi@gmail.com

Should you not be able to book with Nikole or would prefer to take a cab from outside the marina, we recommend using the app “Beat-ride app” or Uber (Uber in Greece works, but only calls taxis).

IN THE MARINA

Meeting time with your Captain/Instructor is at 1 pm Saturday at Olympic Marina in Lavrio. If you arrive early, you can check in at the Marina office and request to leave your bags there for the morning while you explore Athens.

Embarking: Boats are usually ready to embark at 5 pm. In the meantime you can head to a nearby supermarket with your Captain/Instructor to do the food shop for the week. We recommend stocking up at the start of the week as the small stores on the islands have limited stock and are more expensive.

Disembarking: We arrive back at the marina on Friday evening by 6 pm and will spend the final night with a farewell dinner nearby. Guests must disembark the yachts by 9 am on Saturday.

  • The Currency in Greece is the EURO. We suggest bringing enough Euros with you into Greece to last the entire trip.

  • You are strongly advised to have travel insurance while travelling in Greece.

  • Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted in most hotels, shops and larger restaurants; American Express is accepted in some establishments. However, you are strongly recommended to carry cash needed for the week before leaving your marina for meals, fuel, mooring fees and water taxis.

  • The dress code on the islands is casual (shorts & t-shirts) and only the most exclusive restaurants require elegant clothing.

  • The Time zone is Eastern European Summer Time.

  • Grocery stores are generally open 08:00- 21:00.

  • The majority of islanders are religious (Christian Orthodox) and this should be respected.

    WEATHER

In August Athens generally has very high temperatures with maximum daytime temperatures around 34°C (94°F), minimum nighttime temperatures around 25°C (76°F) and low monthly rainfall. With water reaching a maximum of 28°C (83°F),  and an average of 26°C (79°F), going in the water (and staying there!) feels great.

  • Captain/Instructor
An expert Vagabonde Adventures captain/instructor will be onboard with you for the entire week, teaching you everything from beginner to advanced topics depending on your interest and prior experience.

Yacht accommodation (7 nights) You'll be staying on a beautiful yacht with your new friends as you sail the Saronic at speed.

    Dinghy
The yacht comes equipped with a dinghy and outboard anytime you need to get to shore or go explore.

    Food and drinks onboard

On the first day you will be doing food provisioning with your captain. Provisions are for every breakfast and lunch, with two dinners onboard the yacht. The rest you can treat yourself with some local cuisine at a restaurant.

Yacht fuel, water, shore power, port fees

Your yacht needs to be topped up with water and power throughout the week to ensure it is running in top shape! Port fees have to be payed on arrival at each island, marina or anchorage. The yacht must be topped up with diesel on returning to the base marina. Luckily, you don’t need to worry about any of this because we’ve got you covered!

  • Alcohol & eating out

Treat yourself to drinks and meals throughout the week in local bars and restaurants.

    Transfers to & from airport

You’ll need to make your own way to the marina from the airport - if you are taking a taxi, make sure to take out cash first!

    Staff gratuity

Tipping is customary in the marine industry. If your captain has given you an amazing week, please consider tipping them for their services. 15-20% of the total trip cost is standard.

  • Pack in a soft duffel-type bag, please avoid using hard suitcases as we are unable to store them onboard.

You will likely spend most of your week in your bathing suit and flip flops. Don’t forget a good hat (preferably wide brim with a chin strap for the windy days), reef safe sunscreen, light long sleeve sun shirt and polarized sunglasses to help with the glare of the water.

Evenings are pretty relaxed even when ashore at restaurants, smart casual is as dressy as it gets. Pack a pair of long pants and a light jacket for the off chance of a cooler evening.
